Introducing Don Amott Parks
4 minutes well spent
Introduction
You may not already know this – and so we’re going to dedicate this special edition of our blog to it… Don Amott is not just about the motorhomes, VW campervans and caravans on offer. We also own and operate a series of five wonderful leisure parks. Each is based in an exclusive Lincolnshire location, perfect for relaxing and spending weekend breaks or seasonal vacations. We’ll be telling you a bit about these parks whilst suggesting a few enjoyable things you can do or places you can visit locally from each.
1. Lakeside Park
Lakeside Park situated at North Somercotes near the small market town of Louth, this is a wonderful park featuring a variety of quality leisure options. These include the Tropicana (a heated pool complex including sauna, solarium and steam room), plus a cabaret room, a sportsman’s bar and a restaurant. It’s a particularly great park for those who enjoy active days and relaxing nights.
In terms of Louth and the surrounding area, there are plenty of things to occupy you. At the weekends Louth buzzes with market life, and there are plenty of shops and tearooms to keep you happy. It’s also home to one of the country’s most renowned independent record shops for collectors of vinyl. ‘Off The Beaten Tracks’ has been running for around 20 years and is well stocked with plenty of new and pre-owned vinyl. It’s a real treasure trove. Nearby Louth Museum features the world’s largest collection from Victorian woodcarver Thomas Wallis and tells the story of this charming town in the heart of the county.
2. Nettleton Park
Tucked away neatly in the Lincolnshire Wolds is our Nettleton Park, which has been tastefully developed to retain the natural beauty of the area. It’s set in a mature pine forest and is perfect for those who like to spend their leisure time in breathtakingly beautiful surroundings. Nettleton Park includes a leisure complex featuring a gym, sauna, solarium and a heated pool – perfect for all the family.
Nearby Caistor is a small town sometimes noted for its 56 listed buildings (with many from the Georgian era) though it actually dates back as early as Roman times and was originally a fortress (a few fragments of the 4th century Roman walls remain). The Viking Way runs through the town, making it extremely popular with walkers. Nettleton itself is rich with ironstone mining history (though there are no publicly accessible sites). The Salutation Inn, a fine pub, should keep you generously fed and watered!
3. Willows Park
Just a single mile from lively Mablethorpe, Willows Park is a terrifically serene retreat offering peace and quiet during your breaks. Attractive landscaped gardens and plenty of facilities to keep everyone happy make this an ideal location for families. These facilities include tennis courts, a nine-hole golf course, two well-stocked fishing lakes, an all-weather bowling green, Arctic lodge with BBQ and an adventure play area for the kids!
Mablethorpe itself is one of the UK’s most well-known seaside resorts. With award-winning sandy beaches and plenty of spectacular views – as well as things to do – it’s a treat for all. Spots worth taking in include the Mablethorpe Seal Sanctuary, the Aquapark, the Fairground and the Dunes Entertainment Complex.
4. Whispering Waters
Also close to Mablethorpe is our Whispering Waters Park, just a short stroll from the town’s shops, amusements and sandy beaches. The park itself features a well-stocked fishing lake plus a tonic bar, and a children’s adventure play area. Whispering Waters is beautifully landscaped and there is also plenty of musical entertainment scheduled for evenings at the park.
5. Windmill Park
In the delightful village of Burgh le Marsh, just a few minutes’ drive from Skegness, our beautifully landscaped Windmill Park is an exclusive secluded retreat for families who wish to be located just off the beaten track during their leisure time.
Skegness, meanwhile, is packed with plenty of fun things for every family to do. Lovers of wildlife will find much of worth at Natureland, a seal sanctuary set up to rescue and rehabilitate orphaned or injured seal pups from along the Lincolnshire coast. There are other forms of wildlife here, too – including penguins, alpacas, meercats and more. Further inland from Windmill Park you’ll find the Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, which pays tribute to the county’s fascinating airborne reputation. It includes fine examples of many military aircraft including a WW2 Lancaster bomber! Back in Skegness, you could walk on the beach and find yourself recreating that famous 1908 tourist poster. Yes, the air around the shore really is “so bracing!”
