A couple of the key features which maximise space and can make all the difference with custom VW campers are a pop top roof and a rock and roll bed. No doubt you’ve come across those phrases before, but what exactly are they?

• Pop top roof: Essentially, a pop top is an elevating extension to the roof of a campervan. This roof stays down when the vehicle is travelling, but ‘pops’ up when you are parked. It can be the difference between feeling like a campervan conversion is ‘too small’ and feeling like there is plenty of headroom and additional space throughout. Some campervan conversions with a pop top roof also have an additional elevating bed, creating plenty of space for a family of four! If the pop top roof features mesh windows, it’s also possible to stand up in the campervan and get some great views – depending on where you’re parked of course!
• Rock n roll bed: What is a rock and roll bed? Put in the simplest terms, it’s a set of seats for daytime use which transforms into a bed for night time, pulling out and unfolding. Rock and roll beds are easy to operate and convert from seats to bed by operating the mechanism via a simple handle or lever. When in the bed form, there’s plenty of space for a restful sleep, and when in the seat form, they can easily be moved forwards or backwards to create further space in the rear of the campervan to store luggage. In some models of VW camper conversion, it’s also possible to get integrated storage underneath the bed, depending on the type of seats you opt for, ensuring you have room for the things you have brought with you on your trip.

Camper King VW T28 110 SWB S Line

1.  Premium engineering

This conversion is a great example of what makes Camper King so special. It’s based on the popular T6 – with T6 camper conversions being the benchmark these days – and is a 2.0 litre 110 PS SWB with a 5-speed manual transmission. It comes in a stunning pure grey exterior finish so there’s great visual impact, topped off by the chic tinted ‘privacy windows’ in the living quarters.

2.  Interior comfort

This cool look is continued inside, with black vinyl upholstery featuring a small diamond stitch pattern. In an easy to use layout, there are four seats altogether (including driver and navigator), with a detachable and sliding table offering a place to socialise, relax and dine. The seating in the living quarters is also a crash tested rock and roll bed, and the van features a pop top roof too, so there’s an additional bed area once extended. There’s plenty of space for everyone to get the best night’s sleep!

3.  All the utilities

The van’s kitchen facilities include a two-burner hob, sink, condenser fridge and storage cabinets, giving you all the cooking essential for life on the road. Other features include freshwater tank, cab air conditioning, heated rear windscreen, alarm, rear parking sensors, USB ports, wireless charger and touch sensitive lighting.

1.  Top reliability

This stunning pre-owned conversion is based on the T6 (VW Transporter) and is a 2.0 litre 109 BHP SWB with a 5-speed manual transmission and a mileage of 20,762. The exterior is a striking Indium Grey finish, complemented by the tinted privacy windows on the living area, for a cool and calm look.

2.  Quality features

With much of the same spec as that listed above for the T28, this is a second-hand vehicle with a fistful of quality features, though the additional ‘selling point’ is the additional passenger seat in the cab. Through and through, this is a top notch example of how even pre-owned Camper King conversions can feel like new – and they certainly provide you with that special something!
